Thurston County

Construction

I-5 - SR 510 Interchange - Reconstruct Interchange
Highway:
I-5 Region: Olympic County: Thurston Location: Milepost(s) 110 to 112.5
Contact: Doug Adamson, 360-357-2716
Description: Crews are converting the existing overpass into a diverging diamond interchange.
Work Schedule: See below:

  • 10 p.m. Friday, May 17, until 6 a.m. Saturday, May 18, the southbound I-5 exit to Marvin Road will close. Drivers can detour via Nisqually (exit 114).
  • 9 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 20, Marvin Road will have one lane in each direction and traffic will be controlled by law enforcement.

Around-the-clock:

  • Southbound I-5 drivers exiting onto Marvin Road will not be able to turn left onto Marvin Road. Those drivers will follow a signed detour via Hogum Bay Road.
  • Marvin Road drivers will also not be able to turn right onto Hogum Bay Road and will detour via northbound Marvin Road and Willamette Drive North.
  • Marvin Road overpass is reduced to one through lane in each direction.
  • All users of this interchange are strongly encouraged to sign up to receive WSDOT email updates.

After Memorial Day weekend:
Construction will reach a key stage that will require a total weekend closure of the overpass to all vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists. After the weekend work is complete, crews will remove a temporary southbound I-5 detour to Hogum Bay and restore all lanes on the overpass.

  • From 10 p.m. Friday, May 31, until 5 a.m. Monday, June 3, the Marvin Road overpass and northbound exit to Marvin Road will close. The northbound I-5 exit to Quinault Drive will remain open.

Drivers using southbound Interstate 5 can use Nisqually (exit 114) or Martin Way (exit 109) as a detour.

WSDOT needs help from drivers to keep traffic moving

  • Allow extra time to travel around the work zone or alternate routes.
  • Travel early in the morning or later in the evening.
  • Reschedule discretionary trips.
